I do not expect this debate to end anytime soon but we must be prepared to talk to our legislators about the need for new revenue, not more cuts to human services!

Human Services advocates met with the Editorial Board of the Chicago Tribune yesterday. We discussed the impact the "doomsday" budget would have on human services and it was not a pretty picture! It was an excellent exchange between the board and advocates. We met for over an hour!

We have learned that support for a tax increase has dried up! Neither Democrats nor Republicans want to increase the income tax. The Leaders have met with the Governor and a budget without new revenues will be introduced this weekend.

I was in Watseka this morning meeting with Christine McTaggart. Christine is the new Executive Director of The Arc of Iroquois County! Tomorrow I head to the Capitol. This week the Senate and the House will hold hearings on the Department of Human Services budget. I have attached my testimony for the Senate Appropriations I Committee which will be held Tuesday, April 28th at 4:00 p.m., Room 212 in the Capitol . . .
