Subject: ANNOUNCEMENT: Director Casey Resigns, Acting Directors for DD and
DRS Named

Director of the Division of Developmental Disabilities, Kevin Casey, has tendered
his resignation and plans to take a position as Executive Director of the New Jersey
Council on Developmental Disabilities. I know that Illinois’ loss is New Jersey’s gain.
Kevin has served in this field for more than 40 years, and we are grateful to him for
the 3 ½ years of service and guidance to support the needs of our customers at
IDHS. His last day with the agency is March 13th.

Upon his departure, Greg Fenton will assume the role as Acting Director of the
Division of Developmental Disabilities. Greg has previously served as Deputy
Director and Acting Director of Developmental Disabilities in Trenton, NJ, before
becoming the Deputy Director of state-operated developmental centers for the
Division of Developmental Disabilities at the Illinois Department of Human Services.
He is a graduate of Rutgers University where he received a Master’s degree in
Public Administration. His many years of experience, leadership and commitment
to the system of care for persons with developmental disabilities are great assets
that will serve him well in his acting role.

I am also pleased to announce Kris Smith as Acting Director for the Division of
Rehabilitation Services. Kris brings many years of experience in working with
individuals with disabilities. She began as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor,
moving on to various administrative positions and served most recently as Deputy
Director. Throughout her career with IDHS, Kris has advocated strongly for the
advancement and independence of individuals with disabilities.

Sincerely yours,

Gregory M. Bassi
