I have had a couple of inquiries about whether the recent Temporary Restraining Order an Alexander County Judge ruled would stop the closing of the Jacksonville Developmental Center. Some news stories have stated that developmental centers are included in the restraining order but it is not true. The Temporary Restraining Order only applies to the Illinois Dept of Corrections. Here is the restraining order.The JDC transition will continue. All person-centered plans have been completed at JDC. I understand that all of the indiviudals and guardians have selected community providers except for those transfering to other state operated facilities so JDC will be closing.
I continue to recommend that the state move slowly as they transition people out of JDC so that everything is in place for a successful transiton. This is much more important than an arbitrary closing date of October 31st.
