POSITION PROFILE Executive Director Helping Hand Center
Helping Hand Center (HHC) is a nonprofit social service agency dedicated to providing quality programs and services to people of all ages with mild to severe disabilities. Children’s Services include a School for Children with Autism, Outpatient Therapies, Early Intervention, Pre-School Preparation, Pediatric Rehabilitation Physician, and Parent Support. High School Transition Services include Work Experience, Day Services, and Afternoon & Weekend Recreation. Adult Services include Day Services, Employment Services, Housing Opportunities, Afternoon Recreation, Clinical Services, Nursing, Aging Program, Transportation, and SubCon Packing and Assembly. The work of HHC is carried out by a staff of 290. The organization is governed by no more than a 15-member Board of Directors and has a $16M annual operating budget. Overall day-to-day management of HHC and the establishment of priorities and utilization of resources, including decisions related to employee hiring, training, compensation and performance evaluation.
Develop and recommend to the Board of Directors long and short-range objectives and plans pertaining to the goals of HHC.
Direct and manage the preparation of an annual budget for Board approval, the maintenance of accurate financial records and best practices related to financial management and controls.
In conjunction with the Chair, plan and coordinate Board of Directors and Executive Committee meetings, including the development of agendas.
Establishment of necessary criteria to review and evaluate the performance of the organization and its major functional activities with respect to present and future operating requirements. Identify potential problem areas and direct the implementation of corrective action to achieve goals and objectives thru improved efficiencies.
Improve and increase the services HHC provides to its clients.
Oversee the management of HHC’s legislative activities and serve as the organizational liaison to other agencies and industry cooperatives.
Initiate, develop, and contribute to advancing HHC’s alliances with partners and potential partners in industry, associations, institutes, foundations, government agencies, etc.
Serve as HHC’s spokesperson. Maintain a strong and respected reputation with all key external audiences.
Direct HHC’s fundraising, promotion, publicity, and public relations activities.
A minimum of ten years of substantive and progressive responsibility in a leadership management role. The applicant’s current position should be as a managing director immediately below the Executive Director or President level at a minimum.
