Just a quick note this morning then it is over to the Capitol for the House Human Services Appropriation Hearing.Yesterday’s rally was outstanding with over 350 people attending with advocates from all over the state and many people who had moved out of state institutions. Governor Quinn was the hit of the day. His passion for the people is incredible. I admire his leadership. What a crowd! Everyone could feel the energy as we talked about having a full life in the community!
Late last night we testified before the Senate Appropriations Committee on Rebalancing and the Division of Developmental Disabilities Budget. Katherine Hamann was the star of the night sharing her story of her sister’s move from a state institution after 63 years into a community living setting. It was one of those memorable events you never forget. Kate is the Director of The Arc’s Family Transition Project. Here is a short story on Katherine from today’s State Journal Register.
