House Republican Leader Jim Durkin met with some former residents of state and other
institutions who are now living a full life in the community. The individuals showed
Leader Durkin their own apartments and talked about their lives in the community and
how much different it was than living in an institution.
Special thanks to the individuals at the Individual Advocacy Group (IAG) who opened
their homes up for Leader Durkin. I also appreciate the advocacy of Dr. Charlene
Bennett, President and Executive Director of IAG, and Dr. David Brooks, Chief
Executive Officer of IAG for making this visit possible.
