Here is a follow up to my Tuesday memo to you on Individual Service.
Greg Fenton, Deputy Director, Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) was a speaker at the
Executive Forum on Wednesday. I had asked Greg to assist us to learn more specifics about the
proposed Case Management Initiative being advanced by DDD and enhancing the role of self-
advocates in the service/support planning process. Greg did an excellent job. He shared with us
that DDD, the Council on Developmental Disabilities and National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disability Services (NASDDDS) have been working together to implement the increasing opportunities for individuals with I/DD because of the Governor’s Rebalancing Initiative. One of those
areas is the Case Management Initiative. We look forward to working with the Division as they move
forward by building a person-centered system. Here is the handout from Greg’s presentation:
WHAT ARE THE DIVISION’S PLANS FOR SUPPORTING THE REBALANCING INITIATIVES?
In concert with Governor Quinn’s “rebalancing goals” of increasing opportunities for individuals to
transition to community-based settings options and improving the quality of life for all citizens with developmental disabilities, the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) recognizes the need to
align all of the major steps in its system so that people with disabilities and their family members have
a smooth and easy process for entering and accessing services. To that end, as people move from
several state institutions and ICF/MR settings, DDD must increase its community capacity to provide
supports and promote greater efficiency in all parts of its system. This Case Management Initiative will streamline practices and create consistency in intellectual disability systems processes across the state. READ MORE.
