We wanted to update you on the National Federation of the Blind’s (NFB) recent effortto draw attention to the use of the subminimum wage at Goodwill Industries International, Inc.As you know, NFB has called for a boycott of Goodwill stores due to their use of the subminimum wage, and advocated for Congress to take up H.R. 3086, the Fair Wages for Workers with Disabilities Act. The Arc has not taken a position on this legislation.
The latest news is that this Saturday, August 25, NFB is organizing protests at Goodwill stores across the country, perhaps at as many as 80 stores. We do not know the locations of these events.
As a chapter of The Arc that has the approval of the U.S. Department of Labor to utilize the subminimum wage, or as a state chapter where one or more of your local chapters may have this approval, you may receive inquiries from the public and your local media regarding NFB’s actions. Staff at The Arc’s national office can assist you in developing your response to questions.
