(Lisle, Illinois)April 23, 2012 – The Arc of Illinois 62nd Annual Convention will be held at the Hilton Hotel in Lisle, IL on April 25-26, 2012. This convention is co-sponsored by The Autism Program. This year’s special Luncheon Guest Speaker is Governor Pat Quinn. On Thursday, April 26, 2012, Governor Quinn will be receiving The Arc of Illinois 2012 President’s Award to acknowledge his leadership for the Rebalancing Initiative that improves the quality of life for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the community.”We are honoring Governor Quinn for his leadership in rebalancing the disability system in Illinois. This is by far the largest system change that I have seen under any governor in my career,” Tony Paulauski, Executive Director, The Arc of Illinois.
The luncheon presentation will include an informative and inspiring video on successful transitions from State Developmental Centers into Community Living. Transitioning people with intellectual and developmental disabilities out of institutions into the community is a process that offers opportunity, inclusion and choices for individuals and families. Approximately half of those currently living in community homes came from an institution or a nursing home. They are now proud, happy and productive members of their communities and proof that it can be done.
Other keynote and breakout presenters include experts in the field of developmental disabilities, including autism. Keynote speakers are: Dr. David Braddock, Tony Records, Alex Plank, and Director Kevin Casey. To attend the convention, please call The Arc of Illinois at 815-464-1832.
