The Arc in Hurricane Sandy’s Path |
Dear friends, |
In the last few days, Hurricane Sandy has devastated portions of the eastern United States, and chapters of The Arc were in its path. The national office of The Arc is reaching out to chapters in the 13 states affected by the storm to find out how they and the people they serve fared in this event. If you are an affected chapter and need help, please contact Dee Dee Eberle, Director of Chapter Organizing and Advocacy, at Eberle@thearc.org or 202-534-3726. Or you can reach out via our social media channels – Twitter, Facebook and The Arc’s blog.
Those of you who were not in harm’s way in this storm may be looking for ways to help other chapters of The Arc that weren’t so fortunate. We have activated our Disaster Relief Fund that we implement in times like these that enables our ability to take in donations from across the country and quickly disburse them to chapters of The Arc that need emergency resources to carry out their mission in the aftermath of destruction.
In past catastrophes, like Hurricane Katrina, the tornadoes in Joplin, Missouri, and floods along the Mississippi River, chapters have been very appreciative of your support and used the funds to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families recover and rebuild chapter programs and offices, literally putting back together their mission. If you or your chapter would like to make a donation to The Arc’s Disaster Relief Fund, you may donate online or simply send a check to The Arc’s national office with a notation that it is for the Disaster Relief Fund.
As we learn more, we will keep you informed via our social media channels – Twitter, Facebook, The Arc’s main blog, and our new chapter blog, wearethearc.org, which chapters across our network can use to inform others about their needs and accomplishments.
Thank you in advance for your support of your fellow chapters and your generosity as The Arc carries out our mission in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
