Governor Quinn is strongly committed to rebalancing the disability system in Illinois. After his warm reception at The Arc/TAP Convention the Governor wanted a chance to tour a community organization and speak with some self-advocates. At the convention I happened to see a great session put on by SouthStar Services about how they integrate every aspect of their organization with self-advocacy. I was very impressed with the SouthStar culture and their efforts at true person-centered planning so it was a good opportunity for the Governor to visit SouthStar Services.

The last part of the morning ended with an interview of the Governor and me on his rebalancing initiative by Channel 7 News Reporter Karen Meyer. As I talked to the Governor, he continued to reaffirm his strong commitment to continue to close state institutions and invest in community services.
It was quite a morning for The Arc!
