Arc Press Release on Governor’s Proposed State Budget
It was quite a whirlwind of a day in the Capitol yesterday. I am working a more detailed report on the budget. I am very concerned about cuts to respite and other grants and changes in eligibility for the Home Services program in the Division of Rehabilitation Services among others. Here is the press release we sent out the media yesterday after the budget address. Please let me know if you see this in your area and send me a link if you can!

STATEMENT FROM THE ARC OF ILLINOIS ABOUT GOVERNOR QUINNS FISCAL YEAR 2013 BUDGET ADDRESS
“I commend Governor Quinn for taking the bold and heroic steps necessary to provide the best opportunities for persons with disabilities. The Governor’s budget plan for 2013 lays the groundwork to get Illinois’ fiscal house in order and rebalance an antiquated disability system that currently does not allow our most vulnerable citizens the opportunity to live life with independence and equality. The Governor’s announcement to close the Murray Developmental Center, compliments his plan to close the Jacksonville Developmental Center and further Illustrates his commitment to providing cost effective and personalized care for people with disabilities. The budget includes funding to ensure a smooth transition and coordinated care as individuals move from institutions to community homes where they can live close to loved ones and be part of a community. Unlike any other administration I have worked with, Governor Quinn has included the advocacy community and enlisted experts to ensure a thoughtful and coordinated approach to making sure people with disabilities enjoy the same freedoms and opportunities as everyone else. Thank you Governor Quinn for putting people first.”
