I am quite pleased to share with you that I got a call from the Council’s new Director Kimberly Mercer-Schleider. She called to let me know that the Council was going to provide financial support for the Going Home Coalition’s Day in the Capitol next spring. The funds will be used to support individuals participation in this advocacy event including travel, lodging and meals. Special thanks to the Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities and their new Director!
Yesterday, I spent the morning with Social Work students from Governor’s State University. Our topic was The Arc’s role in public policy. It is always inspiring for me to meet with young leaders interested in public policy and human services.
Today I am meeting with Terri Devine, our President, to discuss the next steps in the search for a new Arc Executive Director. Later this week The Arc Search Committee meets with candidates in the first round of interviews.
Later today I will meet with the new Executive Director of Blue Cap Pat Thies. Pat has a long history in disability services most recently working with the Council on Quality and Leadership.
Wednesday, Directors of The Arc’s various programs will meet to discuss next steps in hiring and expanding our advocacy resources now that we have a signed contract for The Arc’s Illinois Life Span Program!
Thursday the Value the Work Coalition will meet to discuss next steps in our efforts to override the Governor’s veto of House Bill 5931. Are your legisltors willing to vote to override the veto? I need to know where your legislators stand on this vote.
Friday I will be off on fall vacation for a few weeks.
