Senate Hearing Cancelled. The Senate Human Services Committee has cancelled its Wednesday hearing on abuse and neglect in the community. The hearing is a direct result of the Tribune series on abuse and neglect and you saw the Tribunes editorial which shared with you yesterday. The hearing will be rescheduled for some time in the next few weeks in Chicago. On a side note, the pro institutional groups in Illinois are making this an issue for the need of institutional care. More on this later.
DSP Wage Bill Alive. The DSP wage bill is alive because Representative Currie has filed House Floor Amendment 2 to SB 580. This now becomes the Senate DSP wage bill with identical language increasing DSP entry level wage to $15.00 per hour. Now the Senate will have the first override vote on the DSP wage bill, which will probably pass the Senate but the question remains has anything changed in the House? Certainly, the budget implications remain. The saga continues. Call your Senator to support Senate Bill 580 Amendment 2.
