Another active week for advocacy for The Arc.
On Tuesday the Senate & House Human Services Committee will host a joint meeting to hear testimony regarding abuse and neglect taking place at group homes for individuals with developmental disabilities. The Arc and the Family Support Network have been invited to present testimony.

On Wednesday we’re back in Chicago to meet with other advocates to discuss future directions for disability services in Illinois.
Executive Forum
Last week, the Executive Forum hosted a webinar on the Workforce Investment & Opportunity Act, WIOA, which was signed into law by President Obama. Kristine Smith, Director of Rehabilitation Services, did an introduction to WIOA and a presentation by Doug Morton, Manager of DRS, The Strategic Management Unit the subminimum wage and what it means to the organizations and more.

Interim Controller
Scope of Responsibility: Manage and oversee financial operations for the organization, having $6 million budget, over 20 cost centers, 115 employees and client statistical data for over 400 clients.
Record-keeping Requirements: Maintain grant files and bank reconciliation files, oversee maintenance of accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable, general ledger, fixed asset, tax reporting, , budgeting and client statistical files; and produce monthly financials.
Problems to be Solved: Interpretation of data and application of generally accepted accounting principles to OLDS’ activities, reconciliation of account balances, adapt Financial Edge accounting software to organization’s needs, resolve operational problems with computer applications with help of technical support, when needed, development of systems to capture and report data in meaningful ways. Streamline and automate as much accounting work as possible.
Qualifications: A Bachelors in Accounting plus ten years accounting experience including supervisory and managerial level experience. CPA preferred.
