This will be an active week for The Arc and other advocates. The Court Monitor is scheduled to release the 5th Annual Report to the court on compliance to the consent decree. We already know there will be another noncompliance finding on the ability to retain and hire direct support professionals. I certainly wonder if there will be other noncompliance findings around the lack of small community living options and real employment opportunities for class members.
Today I head to Chicago to meet with Zena Naiditch, CEO, Equip for Equality Zena Naiditch. Zena is a great friend in advocacy.
Wednesday Meg Cooch, Phil Milsk and I will meet to discuss legislative initiatives and policy.
Thursday we will host a webinar on the dangers of block granting Medicaid for our members. Later I will meet with the DSP Coalition on next steps for action on the recruitment and retention of DSP’s.
On Friday Meg and I head back to Chicago to meet with Secretary Dimas and Greg Bassi, Policy Advisor for Health Care & Human Services, Special Counsel, Office of the Governor.
