Next Friday, Governor Quinn and I will be interviewed by Karen Meyer, Channel 7 News at SouthStar Services in Chicago Heights! The Governor wants to also talk to some self advocates about their lives in the community and their goals. SouthStar has integrated self advocacy into every aspect of their organization and they presented on this at our convention last month. Special thanks to Dan Strick and his team at SouthStar for making these arrangements.Nancy Webster is going to be slated to become President of The Arc of the United States! Nancy is a Past President of The Arc of Illinois and a very dear friend. This is a great honor for her leadership and advocacy.

Please join with me and others to celebrate her election at the national convention in Washington D.C., October 25-28. See details and more below!

I am going to be taking next week off so you will not be hearing from me gonna do some fishing and hiking with Barbara!

Counting on Chapters for Convention Success
In 2012, The Arc is taking our annual convention to the next level with the addition of Inclusion International, a global federation of family-based organizations advocating for the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Make plans now to join us October 25-28 for a National Convention and International Forum “Achieving Inclusion Across the Globe” and help us spread the word to everyone who might be interested in attending this unique event. We’ll gather at the Grand Hyatt in downtown Washington, D.C. this year to explore the implications of Article 19 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: Living independently and being included in the community. Inclusion International is involved in an important campaign to promote Article 19, which will culminate at this event with the release of a special Global Report. Also, we’ll focus on national and international issues related to advocacy, employment, and public policy.

You can find out more about the event and register now to attend at thearc.org. Also, please take advantage of promotional and informational materials we have developed to help you promote the event.
