Another superb Executive Forum webinar, this time a managed care update!
Nicole Jorwic, J.D., Director of Rights Policy, The Arc, presentation “Managed Care of DD Services in the United States” was packed with status of managed care nationally. Some of Nicole’s takeaways on managed care were:
- “Nationally, the numbers are now showing there is not cost saving to the states”
- “The trend of states moving to managed care is slowing”
- “The Arc must be at the table if your state is going to move to managed care”

Carrie Hobbs Guiden, Executive Director, The Arc of Tennessee, presentation “Managed Care in Tennessee” was a compelling new perspective on managed care and developmental disability services/supports. The Tennessee plan, Employment and Community First CHOICES TennCare II Demonstration, has a great deal of focus on employment, self-determination, community living and a family perspective very different from other managed care plans I have reviewed.

If you were a part of the Executive Forum yesterday, you heard Phil’s summary of the Leaders meeting with Governor Rauner. Nothing much has changed but it is good that they are talking and plan to meet again next week. Maybe something will break after the first of the year when only a simple majority is needed to pass a state budget rather than a supermajority.
