Last May the U.S. Federal Court issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) and
that TRO was, continued on June 12th and continued again sometime in July. Last week,
a judge in the state court action that entered an order extending and expanding the TRO!
The TRO now covers wards of the State Guardian and this TRO stops the transition of
Murray Developmental Center residents moving into the community! A court hearing is
scheduled for September 9th. Murray Center is scheduled to close at the end of October
but this court ruling could slow down or even stop the closure!
It is time to take action and show our support for self-advocates living in the community
by closing state institutions through the Going Home Federal Court Outreach effort.
The Going Home Court Outreach details how you can help either through signing a petition
or writing a letter to the judge or BOTH! Use the links above for further information.
Please take the time to write a letter and forward the petition request to your network.
All of this is easy to do and will mean a lot for our advocacy for people locked away in state institutions.
Please consider forwarding this e-mail to friends, family, colleagues and allies ~ we’re a
lot stronger when we work together!
