Waiting List. Seventeen hundred adults are about to leave the PUNS Waiting List because of the Ligas Consent Decree. 750 will receive CILA and 750 will receive Home-Based Services. The other 200 individuals will receive CILA because their caregiver is 75 or older. Earlier this year, 1,400 people moved off the waiting list.
While we are discussing Ligas, I met yesterday with Tony Records, the Ligas Court Monitor. The Dept of Human Services has issued a request for proposal to do outreach to individuals in ICFDD’s to present to them their choice to move to a small community living option or to remain in the ICFDD they now live in. Even without the formal outreach, over 700 class members have stated that they want to move to a community living option. In addition, two large ICFDD’s are working with the Dept of Human Services to close their facilities. These two organizations serve about 300 individuals, so Ligas is moving forward.
