Tras lidiar inicialmente con el impacto emocional del diagnóstico de su hija\, Ruth transformó sus desafíos en motivación. Obtuvo una licenciatura en psicología\, con especialización en desarrollo infantil\, y cofundó en 2018 una organización sin fines de lucro en el sur de Chicago para brindar apoyo a niños con discapacidad. Actualmente\, Ruth se desempeña como Defensora Familiar en The Arc of Illinois.
