DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this resource fair is to provide various essential community resources from across the state of Illinois that are specific to adults with intellectual\, developmental\, & mental health disabilities in one setting\,  since many resources become minimal for adults with disabilities starting at age 18 & when special education entitlements end at age 22.  Our overall goal is to equip adults with disabilities\, their caregivers & loved ones\, & professionals with resources that enable them to take a proactive approach &/or make informed decisions before & after aging out of the special education system. Adults with disabilities & parents\, guardians\, caregivers\, family\, & friends of adults with disabilities are highly encouraged to attend. Parents & guardians of individuals with disabilities who are middle or high school age are also encouraged to attend to prepare for transitioning & aging out of the special education system. This one-day conference focuses on the intersection between healthcare\, advocacy\, and disability to provide vital information for families and providers of people with disabilities. This year’s symposium includes presentations on Emergency Preparedness\, Related Services in the School System\, ABA Therapy\, Disability Services and Programs\, and Medicaid Waiver Appeals and Insurance Denials. We will also present some examples of family-led advocacy. \nThis symposium is appropriate for family members\, self-advocates\, and professionals who care for people with any type of disability or chronic medical condition.
