SUMMARY:What’s Next for I/DD Service Delivery and Payment Models - National Assn of QIDPS
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW! \nSession Description: This session will provide an overview of efforts to prepare I/DD agencies to understand and adapt to a landscape that includes non-state payers and is outside of the traditional fee for service (FFS) reimbursement model. States are increasingly looking to alternate payment and management structures for HCBS services\, including I/DD services. I/DD service providers are often unfamiliar with the culture\, values\, language and expectations of non-state payers. Even while state systems remain in a FFS structure for I/DD services\, agencies need to be actively engaged in learning about essential competencies that will be necessary to continue to provide their mission-based services in a new landscape and taking steps to prepare their organizations to continue to grow and thrive. This session will share strategies for shifting I/DD agency attitudes from resistance to new payer models to seeking to become informed and educated about them so that they can be as impactful and influential as possible in shaping the future of their state’s I/DD system.  We’ll discuss how recent societal trends have impacted I/DD service delivery and what possible long term effects may shape the future for I/DD organizations. \nKey Themes \n\nEmerging payer\, service and business models in the I/DD system\nReadying I/DD provider organizations to survive and thrive in alternate payer systems\nThe impact of COVID19 on I/DD organizations\, service delivery and plans for the future\n\nSpeaker Bio:  Kathy Carmody is the CEO of the Institute on Public Policy for People with Disabilities\, Illinois’ largest association exclusively devoted to I/DD community provider organizations. (Institute) \nKathy has over 35 years of experience in the Illinois and national I/DD arena\, including leading research\, demonstration and training projects which substantially improved the nature and quality of services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Kathy has also held direct support\, clinical and executive management roles within community agencies. At the Institute\, Kathy is involved in a wide array of policy and practice issues affecting people with I/DD and serves on and leads multiple committees and task forces impacting the I/DD service system. \nKathy co-chairs the ANCOR Alternate Payment Model (APM) workgroup (ANCOR Report)\, co-chairs the CQL/Mosaic/Institute national SME team that authored Building the Framework for I/DD Quality Measurement (Building the Framework) and led the Illinois state team in the Business Development Learning Collaborative (BDLC) as part of the NASUAD Business Acumen Center (HCBS Business Acumen Center). \nKathy is a frequent presenter at the state and national level on an array of topics impacting the I/DD service system\, including quality metrics\, alternate payer models\, preparing community agencies for success in a changing landscape\, national trends in I/DD services and person centered planning and practices. \nKathy has a graduate degree in Social Service Administration and Policy from the University of Chicago and is a graduate of the National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities at the University of Delaware. \nCost: \nMember: $20.00 \nNon-Member: $25.00 \nCEUs: We will be offering CEUs for this event. \n

Parents and family members of individuals of all ages diagnosed with autism face unprecedented challenges during the COVID-19 restrictions of social distancing. Individuals with autism depend on a team of professionals\, teachers\, and family members to support their daily learning\, behavioral\, sensory and communication difficulties. With “stay at home” orders and schools and businesses closed\, routines and structure have been disrupted on top of mounting anxiety and stress. During this 90-minute webinar\, Kathy Morris will demonstrate four practical strategies which will help alleviate the stress and anxiety those with autism are currently facing to help reduce meltdowns and tantrums. You will learn Square Breathing\, Power Cards\, Five-Point scale and Social Stories to help identify emotions as well as regulate anxiety and stress. There will also be an update on the Illinois Transition Plan. \nAbout the Presenters:\nTavarus Wesley is President of the self-advocacy group PossABILITY Partners. He also serves as the Alliance board chair\, is a member of The Arc of Illinois board of directors and is a member of the Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities.  Tavarus is a graduate of the Alliance Ambassador self-advocacy training program and a Partners in Policymaking-IL graduate. Tavarus is an accomplished presenter regularly speaking at the Illinois Speak Up and Speak Out Summit\, and has presented at the National Self Advocates Becoming Empowered Conference and at the Tennessee Mega Conference.  In addition to his advocacy work Tavarus is a long-time staff member on the maintenance team at New Star Services. \nLeanne Mull has been supporting people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to achieve their dreams for over 20 years. She spent the first 15 years at a traditional agency in a variety of roles.  Leanne believes that the key to meaningful lives for people who receive services is to encourage\, empower and enlighten the staff who work for them.  As co-director of Blue Tower Solutions\, Inc. Leanne fulfills that dream as a national speaker\, writer and consultant improving organizations and systems supporting people with disabilities. Additionally\, Leanne serves as Vice-President on the Board of the Arc of Illinois and as a Quality Enhancement Specialist for CQL.

SUMMARY:Addressing Challenges of Social Media for Individuals Living with IDD and Mental Health Issues
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \nWith the social restrictions surrounding COVID-19 pandemic\, connecting with others via virtual and social media platforms has become much more prevalent. Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) may have barriers in accessing social media platforms\, including experience in navigating and knowing appropriate ways of interacting and making connections virtually. aSuggestion for Wellness & Care\, working in a collaborative partnership with The Arc Gloucester\, offers a unique combination of features and services that allows for the Provider to leverage their Direct Support Staff to manage and moderate social media platform that includes healthy group discussions in an anonymous\, secure\, and private manner with the individuals they serve (patients\, clients\, family\, service recipients\, etc.). The application of this concept with the collaboration of partners like The Arc Gloucester has shown to be a one-of-a-kind solution to social engagement and education in a virtual context to support individuals with IDD. The platform allows for personal choice\, independence\, safe (moderated) social engagement\, anonymity\, staff facilitation\, and (non-prescribed) 24/7 access 365 days per year. SUMMARY:Inclusive Tech: Apps for Life
DESCRIPTION:Session Description:  During this session\, the participants will learn how mobile technology can enhance and simplify everyday life for people with disabilities. A variety of skills will be addressed including cognitive and social development\, daily living\, and more. The apps highlighted will range from free to paid versions with subscription fees and will address a range of needs of those with cognitive disabilities. Information will be briefly shared on the use of our app search tool to help participants explore more helpful apps for their unique situation. \nSpeaker Bio: Amy Fuchs is the Program Coordinator for BridgingApps\, a program of Easter Seals Greater Houston. She holds a BA in Psychology and a M.Ed. in Early Childhood Special Education from Auburn University; as well as a Texas teaching certificate. She taught in public elementary schools for 13 years in a variety of classrooms including resource\, co-teach\, inclusion\, and adaptive behavior settings. During her tenure\, she had the privilege of working with students of varying abilities\, including autism\, behavior disorders\, learning and developmental disabilities\, and physical differences. She co-founded an advocacy group with a speech pathologist in 2016\, serving families in the Houston area\, with the primary focus on educating and empowering parents to be their own advocates. As Program Coordinator\, she writes blogs for educators\, magazine articles for parents\, and app reviews on behalf of BridgingApps.
