The Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities works on a wide range of programs to help improve the opportunities people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are afforded including education\, employment\, transportation\, community living\, and health care. DESCRIPTION:Presented by the Arc of the United States. \nWhen in the juvenile justice system\, young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) may be placed in a variety of settings\, including home confinement\, foster homes\, group residential housing\, and even secure detention or solitary confinement. \nHowever\, students with IDD do not lose their right to public education\, including all rights to special education\, when they are adjudicated delinquent. Wherever they are\, they have the same rights to access the coursework the state requires for all students\, as well as the services and supports provided by their IEP and/or Section 504 plan. In a secure setting\, the way in which some services are provided may be altered\, but the services cannot be denied. \nIn this webinar\, you will hear from Diane Smith Howard\, Managing Attorney for Criminal and Juvenile Justice with the National Disability Rights Network (NDRN).
