DESCRIPTION:Speakers:  Jasmina Sisirak\, PhD\, MPH\, Co-Director of the HealthMatters Program\, Department of Disability and Health\, University of Illinois at Chicago and Jennifer Eastman\, MBA\, Director of Community Living Policy at Maryland Department of Disabilities \nAs an often underserved population\, health promotion is even more imperative for people with IDD when living in turbulent communities during a pandemic. During a period of physical distancing and sheltering in place due to COVID-19 pandemic\, community-based organizations (CBOs) are reimagining ways to deliver health promotion programming to people with IDD and exploring options for connecting remotely. This webinar will present Virtual HealthMatters Program Coach\, a 12-week health promotion program that provides easy access\, online “anytime/anywhere” modules\, strategies\, and messages for use among people with IDD and their supports in community homes. Lessons learned will be discussed by one of the CBOs currently using the program. She is an Assistant Professor & Academic Fieldwork Coordinator at Grand Rapids Community College as well as an Educational Consultant for the Williams Syndrome Association.   \nRobin prides herself on staying on the cutting edge of available tools\, strategies and supporting research in the fields of assistive technology\, differentiating instruction and Universal Design for Learning. Her unique perspective is due to her background in occupational therapy and her specialization in assistive technology and curriculum differentiation. \nRobin holds Bachelor Degree in Administration from Baker College and graduated summa cum laude from Bowling Green State University with a Masters in Special Education – Assistive Technology. SUMMARY:Addressing Emotional Health Needs of People with IDD During a Pandemic:  A Model Demonstration Project to Promote Engagement and Comfort During a Crisis 
DESCRIPTION:August 25 2020 \nPresenters:\nAnde Kolp is the Executive Director of The Arc Maryland. Over three decades\, Ande has supported people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in various positions within Maryland and Iowa. Ande holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy from the University of Iowa and a Master’s Degree in Special Education with a Concentration in Severe Disabilities from The Johns Hopkins University. Prior to joining The Arc Maryland\, she was the executive director for Compass\, Inc.; a private non-profit organization\, specializing in residential and employment supports for people with co-occurring IDD and mental health conditions. \nRachel London is the Executive Director of the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council\, a statewide public policy and advocacy organization promoting the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in all facets of community life. Rachel has been with the Council for 12 years\, serving as the Director of Children & Family Policy and Deputy Director prior to becoming Executive Director. Rachel earned her Bachelor’s Degree and Law Degree from the University of Maryland. After law school\, she was a staff attorney at Disability Rights Maryland where she was active in many important civil rights issues for adults with developmental disabilities\, including the closure of the Rosewood Center. \nLearning Objectives\n1. Describe the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council and The Arc Maryland’s initiative to support people with DD\, families\, and provider agencies during the COVID-19 pandemic.\n2. Identify effective strategies that people with DD\, families\, and provider agencies employed to maintain and promote engagement with family and friends and alleviate stress and anxiety during periods of social distancing and isolation.\n3. Brian’s law practice\, since 1982\, when Mitchell was one year old\, has been dedicated to serving the legal and future planning needs of his fellow Illinois families of children and adults with intellectual disabilities\, developmental disabilities\, and/or mental illness. Brian is a Past President of the Special Needs Alliance and served on the Special Needs Law Section Steering Committee of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. \n  \nSteve Boisse\, Retired CEO\, DayOne PACT \nSteve Boisse is the recently retired Chief Executive Officer of DayOne PACT\, located in Lisle\, Illinois. For almost 30 years he was actively involved in the day to day operations focusing on providing Special Needs Trusts\, Guardianship\, and Case Management services. During those years and working with hundreds of families\, Steve learned that ensuring the long term opportunity for productive\, supported and meaningful lives is of utmost importance for people with disabilities and their families. Steve created the Parent Support Project\, which demonstrated the importance of ensuring that caregivers’ social-emotional needs be addressed. Steve has served as the President of the ICEARC of Illinois and as a board member of the Arc of Illinois. Steve holds a MA in Counseling Psychology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.
