Prior to her State service\, Julie served as a QIDP\, working with individuals having intellectual disabilities. She then worked as a foster care caseworker\, eventually promoting to the adoption and licensing specialist for that agency. Finally\, before beginning her career with the State\, Julie contracted for the Federal government\, conducting background investigations for employees requiring federal security clearances. In this position\, Julie also provided training and mentoring for new employees. She is currently a CAP Advocate/Complaint Investigator for the Illinois Client Assistance Program. Julie enjoys helping others to realize their potential\, and helping others learn to self-advocate. She is a mom to a very busy twelve-year-old son\, and two spoiled cats. In her free time\, Julie enjoys movies and spending time with friends and family. \nValerie Berryman is a Client Assistance Program (CAP) Advocate/Complaint Investigator with State of Illinois\, Department of Rehabilitation Services.  She has assisted many Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) customers with various needs successfully.  A strong believer of self-advocacy\, Valerie helps VR customers understand the power in speaking up for one’s self to achieve their goal of self-support and competitive employment.  Valerie enjoys early morning running sessions and winter baking during the holidays. \nRyan Boyer grew up and lived in the St. Louis area\, before moving to Springfield in 2013. After graduating college\, he worked as a special education teacher\, serving children and young adults with autism. He later began state service within the Illinois Department of Revenue\, working as a tax specialist. He transferred to DHS in 2017\, where he worked as a disability adjudicator before joining the Client Assistance Program. As a Client Assistance Program Advocate/Complaint Investigator\, Ryan investigates various issues experienced by VR customers. Through problem solving and mediation\, he seeks to resolve these issues while maintaining healthy relationships between the customers and DRS staff. In his spare time\, Ryan enjoys spending time with family\, being outdoors\, or reading a good book. \nKari Branham is the Manager for the Client Assistance Program. She has worked in the public social service arena for the majority of her career. Kari has 27 years of service with the Department of Human Services. She has been involved in various Federal Disability Program initiatives and has served on a variety of workgroups and committees to better serve the needs of individuals with disabilities in the community and the workplace. Kari has also been the recipient of two Social Security Administration\, Disability Program\, national honor awards. She enjoys spending time with family\, long walks at the park\, and listening to music of all genres.

Prior to law school\, Emily was a middle school math teacher and earned her Master’s degree in Secondary Education from the University of New Mexico. \nAmanda is a supervising attorney with the Special Education Clinic at Equip for Equality\, where she represents students and families in all aspects of special education and related matters for children with disabilities. Previously\, Amanda was an Equal Justice Works fellow and staff attorney at a non-profit organization based in Boston\, Massachusetts\, where she provided special education representation to families of children with mental health disabilities\, as well as ongoing training and technical assistance to mental health providers working with low-income children and families.

DESCRIPTION:Session Description:  By popular demand\, the TEC Lab will be hosting a session to help you shop for the gadget lovers on your shopping list.  You can expect to learn about all types of products – from low tech solutions designed to address everyday challenges to high tech devices that give people the freedom to focus on the things that really matter.  In the midst of a global pandemic life just seem so complicated – from figuring out how to stay in touch with your loved ones to keeping yourself engaged\, positive\, and productive.  The TEC Lab will provide you with practical ideas on how to address these challenges by sharing favorite gadgets as well as tips for success.  \nSpeaker Bio:  Richard Harrington has worked with people with disabilities for over 20 years.  He is a founding member of the Technology Enhancing Capabilities Lab (TEC Lab) – a division of Trinity Services\, Inc.  Prior to coming to Illinois\, Richard was employed by a community support provider for 14 years fulfilling a number of roles – from a direct supporter to case manager to assistive technology professional.  In his position as an AT professional he was responsible for researching\, developing and implementing a wide variety of assistive technologies for people with developmental and physical disabilities.  Richard is a self-proclaimed “gadget guy\,” who has a passion for helping people be as independent as possible. His open-minded approach and extensive knowledge of assistive technology make him a highly sought after resource for the people served\, families and staff members. Richard is an experienced speaker at regional and national conferences. \nSpeaker Bio:  Connie Melvin is a founding member of the Technology Enhancing Capabilities Lab (TEC Lab) – a division of Trinity Services\, Inc.  She also serves as the Director of the National Association of QIDPs – a member association dedicated to providing cutting edge tools\, information\, and resources to disability professionals across the country.  Prior to coming to Illinois\, Connie developed an assistive technology program from the ground up for a large community-based provider and spearheaded the initiative for assistive technology adoption in another state\, which resulted in a number of successful pilot programs as well as the implementation of highly regarded best practices.  In addition to her work in the area of assistive technology\, Connie has served a case manager\, staff trainer\, and supervisor of residential services.  A lifelong student herself\, she recognizes the value in providing learning opportunities to others and\, as a result\, has designed and hosted several regional and national conferences dedicated to this purpose.  Connie is a highly sought speaker and consultant.  She is graduate of the National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities and earned her MA in Counseling Psychology & Education. \nCost: \nMember: $25.00 \nNon-Member: $20.00 \nCEUs:  We will be offering CEUs for this event.

The webinar topic is Ditch the Diaper – Toilet Training for Children with Special Needs. \nPresented by Laura Brown\, M.Ed.  Laura serves as a Disability Specialist at the Resource Center for Autism and Developmental Delays. Ms. Brown has extensive experience in designing and implementing interventions and differentiating instruction to meet children’s individual needs. As a former special education teacher focusing on students with autism\, she has worked in the public schools and the therapeutic day school setting. \nParticipants will learn answers to these common questions: \n\nHow to know if my child is ready?\nWhat do I need to set my child up for success and how do I use visuals?\nDo I need to use a reward or motivator?\nHow do I tackle common problems such as being scared to flush\, using too much toilet paper\, and other issues?\n\nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. \nPlease note that there are no CEUs for our Lunchtime Webinars.
