SUMMARY:Enhancing Health Care for People With Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic shined a light on the inequities of the health care system that exist for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD). For many people with IDD and caregivers\, receiving care in a hospital setting has always been a challenging experience. We know that training in this area is lacking. Education and experiential learning for health care professionals is essential to addressing these challenges. \nThe Arc Massachusetts\, The Arc Oregon\, and The Arc’s national office have partnered to develop a web-based\, culturally competent training and toolkit for emergency medical personnel. The goal is to support equal access to emergency health care for people with IDD by educating health care providers working in hospital emergency departments. This webinar will provide an overview of training materials that can be used to educate health care professionals in hospital settings and ways to engage these professionals. \nREGISTER \n

SUMMARY:COVID-19 Vaccines for School-Aged Children: What Parents and Families Should Know
DESCRIPTION:During this time of thanksgiving\, we are so grateful that the large majority of schools are fully opened for in-school experiences. As yet another step in providing a safe in-school experience for students\, children ages 5 to 11 are now eligible to receive vaccinations specifically formulated for young children. With that in mind\, it is the goal of NAFSCE and the U.S. Department of Education to provide parents and practitioners with the latest research and information so parents are able to make the best decision they can around vaccinating their children. This webinar is a unique opportunity for parents and family engagement practitioners to ask questions\, share their ideas and concerns\, and to get their questions answered. \nPlease join NAFSCE and the U.S. Department of Education on December 9 at 8:00pm\, ET for an informational webinar following the official approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech age 5-11 vaccine. During the webinar\, panelists including United States Deputy Secretary of Education Cindy Marten\, along with representatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Pediatrics\, will join NAFSCE Executive Director\, Vito Borrello for a series of presentations and constructive conversation to support parents and families as they consider the COVID-19 vaccine for their child(ren). \n\nHow was the vaccine developed?\nHow many children participated in the study for approval?\nWill my child(ren) be safe taking the vaccine?\nWhat are the side effects?\nShould my child(ren) get the vaccine?\nWhere can I take my child to get the vaccine?\n\nParents and practitioners are invited to submit questions about the vaccine on the registration form. Pre-submitted questions will help plan the content of the session. Time will also be reserved for live questions and answers at the end of the event. Click here to register. \nWebinar Registration – Zoom

SUMMARY:Customized Employment Webinar Series for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities & Families presented by Marc Goldman and Associates Webinar #2
DESCRIPTION:The Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities (ICDD) in partnership with nationally known training experts from Marc Gold & Associates (MG&A) is happy to offer a trio of webinars on the benefit and the importance of Customized Employment (CE) for individuals with developmental disabilities\, families\, and other interested members of the public. These webinars are FREE to those who register to participate. \nThrough these webinars\, attendees will learn about: \n\nPrinciples & the Essential Elements of CE\nCE processes\, activities & documentation\nThe person-centered planning aspects of CE\nThe important role that families have in the CE process\n\nWhat is CE and why is it important? \nCE proceeds from the belief that all people\, regardless of their disabilities\, can work. \nThe foundation is learning when a person is at their best in order to translate that information into an integrated community work environment that is designed to match and meet the specific abilities of the individual with a significant disability and the business needs of the employer.  Customized Employment (CE) is a critical concept for assuring employment for all. \n  \nWebinars 2 & 3 will build off of these fundamental concepts to provide additional information and key insights important to the perspectives of the employment seeker and the family and pertaining to the process\, documentation and outcomes of CE.  These webinars will be archived by ICDD so that they are available for later viewing.   \nRegister
