DESCRIPTION:The Autism Program of Illinois is hosting our second annual Autism Symposium on Wednesday\, April 6th from 9:00 am to 2:15 pm.  This virtual event is open to anyone in Illinois\, however\, registration is required.  Our keynote presenter\, Wayne Fisher\, Ph.D.\, BCBA-D\, is a nationally recognized autism expert who will present on Recent Advances in the Functional Analysis and Treatment of Severe Destructive Behavior.  Statewide speakers\, who are associated with TAP\, will present their research findings about current evidence-based therapeutic trends.  CEUs and CEs will be provided by the Institute on Disability and Human Development at UIC and the University of Illinois – Champaign Urbana.  (There is a $40.00 registration fee when individuals require CEUs or CEs\, otherwise\, there is no cost to attend.) \nDetailed information about the symposium sessions is available on the 2022 Autism Symposium page of the TAP website and at this link: https://tap-illinois.org/tap-symposium/. \nIndividuals can register from the registration button on the website or through our TAP Facebook page.

DESCRIPTION:Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) is any form of communication that enhances or supplements verbal speech or written language. This family-centered workshop will discuss the many ways that a child communicates and how to identify if he or she may benefit from AAC. Participants will discuss tools\, strategies\, and myths that will be helpful to know as they begin to explore the exciting world of AAC. \nRegister HERE \nPRESENTED BY: Heather Miller Schwarz\, M.S.\, CCC-SLP \n\n\n\n\n\nHeather Miller Schwarz is a Speech-Language Pathologist with over 20 years of experience working with individuals with complex communication needs. She has had experiences in public school\, private practice\, and non-profit settings and has participated as a member of IEP and assistive technology teams. Currently\, she is an Assistive Technology Lead for Collaborations and Trainings at UCP Seguin- Infinitec where she collaborates with IEP teams to provide augmentative and alternative communication support through student assessment and communication partner training and coaching. Heather has presented at local conferences in Illinois in addition to Closing the Gap\, Conference for Assistive Technology and Education and the Illinois Speech Hearing and Language Association Conferences. Her areas of interest continue to include pediatric speech-language disorders and assistive technology for individuals of all ages and abilities.
