July 26 – Today is the 28th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Unfortunately this year, the rights of people with disabilities feel more under attack than ever before.
I ask you, during the rest of the summer, to take time to stop by, call, email or ping on social media your representatives to talk about the importance of the ADA and the importance of the rights of people with disabilities to live, work, learn, play and contribute in communities across the state like anyone else.
There are critical issues at the federal level that we must address with policymakers when they are home and in communities. In the upcoming days and weeks, we will be rolling out summer recess homework and asking everyone to connect for the first time or the 20th with your legislators to talk about things including the importance of the ADA, SNAP benefits and money follows the person legislation.
Happy Birthday ADA! We will continue to fight to keep the ADA strong and other important services and benefits that support people.
