The Arc is in Springfield today to listen to the Governor’s Budget Address – More on that soon!
Stop HR 620
It looks like the House might call HR 620 tomorrow, Thursday so we need to keep up the calls, email and social media. Remember HR 620 would water down the ADA and set up further delays to physical accessibility. Look up your U.S. House rep at this link, and call both the local and DC offices. If you live in Rep Foster’s district, he is co-sponsoring this bill so make sure to call him!
What to say: “Hello, my name is ____ and I am a disability advocate calling to ask you to vote NO on HR 620 on Thursday. It will damage disability rights and hurt the ADA. Please vote no.” That’s all you have to say! Remember you can also ask someone to do that call for you too. On social media use #HandsOffMyADA and #SaveADA.
President Trump Release Budget – Hits Many Social Services
Although the Trump budget might not serve as the basis of the actual spending that will be passed Congress because of the need to be bipartisan, there are many bad ideas in the budget including to shift SNAP (food stamp benefits) to boxes of dried food monthly.
Here are some good summaries of the budget:
