Phil and I are working the Capitol today, and we are beginning to hear the possibility that
a budget may run sometime the end of this week.
Right now, the House Appropriations Human Service Committee is scheduled to meet at
1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 14.
We are hearing that the House may pass a budget similar to the Governor’s recommended
budget that he introduced in his Budget Address.
What is unclear is whether they have the votes to pass the continuation of the income tax
increase. If not, they could pass a bill without funding, which means we could be working
on the income tax issue through the end of the year. This could be a potentially
dangerous scenario for Disability Services, Human Services and Education.
Your message to your Legislators needs to be the same as in our past legislative alerts:
Support the $1.00 per hour wage increase for Direct Support Professionals.
Support the continuation of the state income tax increase.
Now is not the time to be complacent; this could change at a moment’s notice!
More to come…..
