A note from The Arc of Illinois Board President:
2016 WORD OF THE YEAR: CHALLENGING
The year has been fraught with uncertainty for me personally, for individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities I/DD and their families, and for organizations that support us. It’s also been a time of reflection as we take a fresh look at our values.
My values mirror our inclusive, empowering mission. I first joined The Arc of Illinois when my son was in kindergarten. Jack, who has Down syndrome, is now 24, working two jobs in his community and growing daily as a self-advocate and informed citizen.
The opportunities Jack experiences are part of the legacy of Tony Paulauski, my long time mentor and friend, who is retiring after serving as Executive Director of The Arc of Illinois for over twenty-five years.
As The Arc, and our country, move into the 2017 with new leaders, let us redefine how we interpret the word CHALLENGE.
Challenge also means to dare, to stimulate, and to inspire.
Please help us help people with I/DD and families who do that every single day.
May the Holiday Season bring only happiness and joy to you and your loved ones.

President, The Arc of Illinois
