The Arc of Illinois “Living With Autism Conference 2013” Review
We had a phenomenal day at The Arc’s Living With Autism Conference!
Janet, Dr Shore and Tony at the Autism Conference
We started the day with Stephen Shore, Ed.D., an individual with autism who
now teaches at Adelphi University in New York. His presentation was around
looking at the strengths a person with autism brings to the table and how to apply
those strengths to daily living, employment and a meaningful life in the community.
Stephen joked that the doctors were right he needed to be placed in an institution,
only they didn’t know it would be an institution of higher learning! View his presentation

Barbara Doyle and Tony
Barbara Doyle, M.S., then followed with “Positive Behavioral Change.” Barbara is an
Illinois Treasure! Her insight in working with individuals with autism is remarkable. The
techniques that she shared with us, focusing on practical manipulations and effective
communication were enlightening for all. You can view her presentation here: “Positive Behavioral Change.”
Tony and Dr Kulth
Last but not least,Dr. Paula Kluth did a spectacular presentation on supporting students
within the autism spectrum in general education classrooms and the community. Paula is
a brilliant presenter and a major force advocating for full inclusion for everyone!
I am already looking forward to next year’s Living with Autism Conference!
