Fresh off of the Going Home Rally yesterday, this week we will be doing Live Legislator Look Ups and sharing an example of what we can send to our Illinois Representatives and Senators about the budget!

STATE

The state legislature returns today with social distancing focusing.  They are to focus on the budget – released last night, HB 64 #1 –  draft here — with massive relief measures to help Illinois residents hurting emotionally and economically as a result of the coronavirus.  We are reviewing it now and as has been discussed it appears to be similar in many ways to the Govenor’s budget base line.  They are expected to vote on very few bills with direct impact -SB1863 HA #5, Election Reform/Vote by Mail.

House Passes Fourth Coronavirus Package

On May 15, the House passed its fourth coronavirus package, the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act (H.R.6800) with a vote of 208-199.

This package includes:

  • Increased federal funding for home and community based services (HCBS) under Medicaid
  • Expanded eligibility for economic impact payments to adult dependents and another round of payments
  • Paid leave eligibility for family caregivers of adults with disabilities, including siblings and grandparents

See The Arc’s statement. Now we need the Senate to pass legislation that includes the critical needs of people with disabilities, their families, and the direct support professional workforce. Contact your Senators now.
