Description: The City of Evanston’s CARE team is an alternative response program designed to reduce reliance on law enforcement for behavioral health and social service calls. This presentation will highlight how CARE responds to situations involving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), including protocols for lost or confused individuals, community member reports of unusual behavior, and family calls regarding children or adults with IDD.

Jeron Dorsey serves as the Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Evanston and helps oversee the City’s Crisis Alternative Response Evanston (CARE) team. With a background in Public Administration and community engagement, Jeron has been instrumental in building partnerships between behavioral health professionals, first responders, and community organizations to create safer, more compassionate responses to individuals in crisis. His work emphasizes innovation in public safety and the development of programs that prioritize care, equity, and connection.
