Education & Training

For 70 years, the Arc has provided education and training programs for self-advocates, family members, and professionals throughout the state. We host an Annual Convention, Executive Leadership Conference, Living with Autism Conference, Healthcare Conference among other training events.  These conferences offer continuing education credits and provide Best Practices to families and professionals that enhance the quality of life for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Arc Programs also provide smaller trainings on specific topics around the state.

Janet Donahue, Director of Development


Director of Development
Janet Donahue has been at The Arc of Illinois for the past 27 years working to empower children and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities and to help improve their quality of life. Janet believes all individuals should have the same opportunities to live a life they choose in the community. After raising three sons for 16 years, Janet Donahue joined The Arc of Illinois as an Administrative Assistant in 1993. Janet became the Training Conference Director in 1996 and created the Training Department which is very well known for Best Practice Professional trainings on all topics concerning developmental disabilities in Illinois today. From March, 2004 to present, Janet has been the Director of Development and responsible for Grant Writing, Fund Raising, Membership Recruitment, Website Maintenance and oversees all Event Planning. In August, 2014, Janet began working on developing a new program called The Arc of Illinois Assistive Technology Fund. This program began in January, 2015, and is currently funded by individual donations. This program funds or partially funds the purchase of assistive technology for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities who have received an evaluation/assessment from a qualified provider. 

Becca Schroder, Events/Marketing Manager


Events/Marketing Manager
Rebecca Schroeder joined The Arc of Illinois in January 2019. She previously worked at the McGaw YMCA Children’s Center as their Admissions and Data Manager, where she was responsible for registration for over 1,000 families and worked with state agencies, the local university, and other organizations to help families receive financial assistance. This experience has helped her as the Events/Marketing Manager at The Arc of Illinois where she continues to provide her expertise with marketing, training events and data management. She is a graduate of Loyola University Chicago.
