Participants will receive an overview of ISBE’s Department of Special Education’s responsibilities for the general supervision of local educational agencies in their implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Key projects and services of the Department will be highlighted. Participants will learn about resources available to parents, including those associated with the recent COVID19 pandemic.

More about our speaker: Barbara Moore has 30 years of experience in the field of special education. She has been the Director of the Special Education Department at the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) since December 2018. Prior to joining ISBE, Barbara served as a Director of Special Education at an elementary school district and a rural special education cooperative in central Illinois, an Assistant Director in a rural special education cooperative, an administrator of a public therapeutic day school program, and a school psychologist. She has experiences in public and private education settings working with students with disabilities from preschool through high school. Barbara has a Masters degree in Educational Organization and Leadership, a Specialist and Masters degree in School Psychology, and a Bachelors degree in Psychology. She has presented at local, regional, and state conferences on a variety of educational issues.
