- A Guide for Representative Payees
- When creating a mySocialSecurity online account using someone else’s personal information violates SSA’s rules. However, you can assist someone in creating a mySocialSecurity account if they: 1) are with you; 2) have their own email address; and 3) can answer questions about themselves. You cannot create a mySocialSecurity account on behalf of another person by using another person’s information or identity if the beneficiary is not in attendance, even if you have that person’s written permission. For example, you cannot create an account for another person: 1) with whom you have a business relationship; 2) for whom you are a representative payee; or 3) for whom you are an appointed representative.
- Parents or guardians who are serving as Representative Payees, use the Representative Payee Portal to conduct their own business or manage direct deposits, wage reporting, and annual reporting for their beneficiaries. The Representative Payee Portal is a central portal for individual representative payees – who use their own mySocialSecurity account to log-in – and they are able to conduct their own business or manage direct deposit, wage reporting, and annual reporting for their beneficiaries.
