Health Matters Now More than Ever: The Triple Burden of Disease for People with IDD

August 4, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Speakers:  Jasmina Sisirak, PhD, MPH, Co-Director of the HealthMatters Program, Department of Disability and Health, University of Illinois at Chicago and Jennifer Eastman, MBA, Director of Community Living Policy at Maryland Department of Disabilities

As an often underserved population, health promotion is even more imperative for people with IDD when living in turbulent communities during a pandemic. During a period of physical distancing and sheltering in place due to COVID-19 pandemic, community-based organizations (CBOs) are reimagining ways to deliver health promotion programming to people with IDD and exploring options for connecting remotely. This webinar will present Virtual HealthMatters Program Coach, a 12-week health promotion program that provides easy access, online “anytime/anywhere” modules, strategies, and messages for use among people with IDD and their supports in community homes. Lessons learned will be discussed by one of the CBOs currently using the program. Ways to get involved and take part in Virtual HealthMatters Program Coach will be explained.
