This webinar will provide an overview of the HBS program and key components and examples of how HBS resources can be used. An introduction to the Illinois Fiscal Agent, ACES$, and the services they provide, as well as Self-Directed Assistance (SDA) and the role and responsibilities of a Self-Directed Assistant will be discussed.

Presenters include: Ellen Morrissey, Director of Family Support Services, from Envision Unlimited, Tasha Whiteside, Director of Illinois Operations, ACES$, and Shirley Perez, Director, Ligas Family Advocate Program and Family Support Network

 Eileen Morrissey graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Psychology.  She has been employed by Envision Unlimited for over 23 years. She is a QIPD and currently serves as the Director of Family Support Services for Envision Unlimited.  She has worked serving families in the Home-Based program since its inception. She currently serves over 120 families by providing Self Directed Assistance.

Tasha Whiteside is Director of Illinois Operations for ACES$ Financial Management Services with responsibility for the payroll operations, enrollments and client care for over 3,000 consumers in the State of Illinois. Tasha has spent her career working with people with disabilities in a variety of functions and roles. Prior to joining ACES$ in March of 2014, Tasha spent six years with Ray Graham Association in administration, program enhancement and life skills development. She began her career in direct support and Residential Services and was named Residential Services Director of the Year while at Frances House. One of Tasha’s core strengths and beliefs is that community partnership is essential to all non-profits and she continues to improve the connectedness and outreach of ACES$. Tasha is a National Deans List graduate of Governors State University with a degree in Psychology and she volunteers for KABOOM Project and Special Olympics.

Shirley A. Perez is the Program Director of the Ligas Family Advocate Program and Director of The Family Support Network of Illinois (FSN). Ms. Perez has thirty plus years of advocating and working with individuals and their families with disabilities. She has served in many volunteer positions and on various boards advocating for people with disabilities. She is a business graduate of Metropolitan Business College and Kaplan University. She operated her own business, worked at an Independent Service Coordination Agency. She advocated for and assisted families in locating services by navigating the State system. In conjunction with the City of Chicago, Federal Home Loan Bank and The Illinois Housing Development Authority, she implemented a home-buying program for individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. She has worked as a Special Project Advocate with the Illinois Life Span Project; met with families/guardians to explain the transition process and listen to their concerns as their family members’ transition into the community from State Operated Developmental Centers.

She is the proud mother of an adult daughter (Tamekia), who lives in the community and utilizes Home Based Services. Ms. Perez’s passion for advocacy is fueled by her desire to help her daughter and others with disabilities reach their full potential. Her philosophy is, “everyone can succeed with the right supports!”
