Presenter: Sydney Badeau is a neurodivergent leader, accessibility strategist, and statewide advocate working at the intersection of disability rights, plain language, and community-driven change. She serves as Chair of the Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities and works with People First Wisconsin and The Arc Wisconsin to advance self advocacy, equity, and accessible communication across the state. Sydney is known for translating complex ideas into plain language, designing sensory-friendly processes, and reframing lived experience as expertise. She speaks nationally on accessibility, neurodivergent leadership, and the power of self advocates shaping policy and practice.

Description:  This session explains what plain language is and why it matters for everyone. Participants will learn simple ways to make information easier to read, understand, and use. We will look at real examples, practice rewriting confusing text, and talk about how clear communication supports inclusion, access, and better decision making. This session is welcoming to all experience levels and gives people practical tools they can use right away. • Participants will be able to explain what plain language is and why it helps people understand information the first time they read it. • Participants will practice rewriting confusing text into clearer, shorter, more accessible language they can use in their own work. • Participants will leave with simple tools and steps they can use right away to make emails, documents, and meetings easier for everyone to understand.
