ILS Lunchtime Webinar: Helping People Design Full and Productive Lives Using Person Centered Planning

Presenter Names: Bridget Brown and Nancy Brown

Bridget and Nancy will give an overview of person centered planning to inform the participants about the concept.  Bridget will share how she used person centered planning every year to present at her own IEP meetings when she was in school. She will share how important it is to help students find their own voice and share their hopes and dreams. Bridget will explain how this process has helped her design her life. Nancy will share how she discovered  centered planning when Bridget was a very young child. This process provided direction and was the key to successful advocacy for Bridget and many others she has worked with over the years.  Participants will leave with a clear understanding of person centered planning and solid successful tools and strategies that parents and self advocates can use.

Presenter info:

Bridget Brown is a young woman with Down Syndrome who inspires everyone she meets. She encourages people to DWELL IN THE POSSIBILITIES.  She was one of the first students fully included throughout her educational journey. Now Bridget is a national speaker and a strong advocate of inclusive education and community-based living. Bridget helps people with disabilities find their voice and discover their gifts and strengths.   She has her own advocacy organization called BUTTERFLIES FOR CHANGE & she dreams of a world where all people can live full and inclusive lives.

Nancy Brown has worked with  individuals with disabilities most of her life. She advocated for her daughter Bridget to be the first student with a disability to be included. Nancy worked with Microboards and was a State inclusion consultant for ISBE (Project CHOICES). Nancy and her daughter Bridget  are national inclusion educators through their organization called Butterflies for Change.  Nancy specializes in inclusive education; person centered planning life design, adaptations & accommodations, parent training, inclusive social emotional models of support, organizational development, transition, storytelling, as well as access and equity for all students. She is the co- author of Models of Support and Kid Konnections.
